The first graduates of accredited innovative education programme in the Romani language
On 11 and 12 June 2015, forty-five primary school teachers successfully completed the accredited education programme "Intercultural education in primary schools with pupils from Roma communities". In the programme, which is a part of the "Together with Roma we will achieve more" project, the teachers learned about the Romani language and Roma culture.
During trainings, the teachers were trained how to communicate effectively with pupils and their parents and learned various methods of bringing Roma culture to pupils and how to motivate pupils to be interested in different cultures. The training also focused on how teachers could apply their knowledge and skills in inclusion of pupils from the Roma community into the school environment while maintaining their personal and cultural identity.
The teacher training was one of the main activities of the project "Together with Roma we will achieve more", which is financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and the state budget of the Slovak Republic. The project was developed in co-operation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport, the Government Office of the Slovak republic and supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in the Slovak Republic and the Council of Europe.
