The National Institute for Education in co-operation with the European Wergeland Center carried out The Autumn Academy: Democratic School Environments for All (hereinafter Academy) in the school year 2017/2018. The training program was aimed at supporting the democratic school climate in the Slovak Republic, strengthening professional competencies of school management, teachers and other actors, supporting the partnership and co-operation of schools in the field of education and training in human rights and democratic citizenship. At the same time, participants were given the opportunity to obtain practical tools and strategies to create a democratic environment for all pupils using the whole-school approach. Training also included an analysis of the school's needs and situation, enabling school teams to prepare an action plan that responds to the challenges the school needs to deal with. The implementation and evaluation phase of the action plans of the participating primary and secondary schools ran from November 2017 until the end of the school year 2017/2018. The Academy was organized with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
